Dear PFSJC School Families and Friends,

Although this week marked the second week of the fall season, we have been fortunate (if you like the heat), to experience above normal temperatures. It has been difficult to enjoy the nice, unseasonal temperatures knowing that many of our family member’s lives are in turmoil after back to back hurricanes devastated the Caribbean, Mexico, and southern United States. Despite these recent natural disasters, the PFSJC community has been busy, coming together to respond and support the victims and families. Teachers, parents, and students have been hosting several fundraising events.

On a much positive note, this fifth week of school, students have been settling into their routines and classes. Teachers and students have been busy building community in their classrooms; administrators and teachers have been working together on designing academic support structures for all students.

We had our first Open House this week and we are looking forward to our next Open House on 10/17/17 @ 5-7PM. The reason for two open house dates was to accommodate those pares and guardians that were unable to attend the September 27th open house due to short notice. The second reason for a second open house is to accommodate those families that have multiple siblings.

There is several news -worthy initiatives taking place. First ‘Coffee with the Principal’ will begin on10/10/17 @9-11AM. This will be an opportunity for community members, parents, and guardians to meet with the principal, in an informal atmosphere to learn about the different initiatives happening at PFSJC School. We will gather in the new Parent/Student Center. The second initiative taking place is the Senior Mentoring Program. This program was designed (by teachers and administrators), to support student learning in core classes such as English, Social Studies, Science, and Mathematics. Seniors are matched to specific classrooms based on their knowledge of the subject matter. Teachers, seniors and administrators will meet periodically to discuss the efficacy of the program.

Finally, we will begin the PFSJC after school program on 10/16/17. We are proud to announce our partnerships with Bay Path University and Smith College. We have been communicating over the course of the past month to ensure a quality experience for our young adults. More information is forthcoming soon!
