Paulo Freire Social Justice Charter School is accepting applications for September 2013 9th and 10th grade programs.

Applications may come from any Massachusetts resident. Priority will be given to students from: Holyoke, Chicopee, Westfield, West Springfield, South Hadley, and Northampton.

The application deadline for our next lottery is: June 14, 2013. The lottery will be held on Wednesday June 19, 2013 at our new home, as of June 1, 2013 161 Lower Westfield Road. Holyoke, MA (across from Holyoke Pediatrics)

Location of Our School

Our school will be located at 161 Lower Westfield Road Holyoke MA and we will move into our new site in June 2013.

This site will offer easy access on and off Interstate 91 and by public transportation. Classrooms, planned for 15 students to each teacher will be spacious and support the goal of an excellent academic program for all. Outside the site offers space for basketball and other activities.

We offer academic classes for college preparation, as well as: sports, the arts, technology, and community initiatives.

Teaching Positions:

All teachers must be certified by completion of the MTEL Communication and Literacy Skills and Subject Tests, and have at least two years of teaching experience.

We are currently hiring for the following Teaching positions:

High School Special Education Teacher- Full-Time

We are also hiring Apprentice Teacher Positions for:

Math- Full-time

Apprentice teachers must be certified but do not need classroom experience beyond student teaching.

The Paulo Freire Social Justice Charter School will hold a Board meeting on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 5pm. The meeting will be held at 67 Woodlawn Avenue Northampton, MA 01060. The meeting is open to the public.

First Lottery Thursday March 15, 2012 at 5pm CareerPoint in Holyoke

Our first lottery application date was Monday, March 12, 2012. Any applications postmarked by that date will go into the first lottery. Any applications received after that date will go into a second lottery.

Our first lottery will be held on Thursday March 15, 2012 at 5pm at CareerPoint 850 High Street Holyoke, MA 01040

We will call anyone who is unable to attend by Sunday March 15, 2012 to let them know the results.

Application for First Lottery Due Date: March 12, 2012

Charter schools are public schools and free to all students.

The State of Massachusetts’ enrollment report is due in mid-March. This only leaves a short time for applications to be submitted, a lottery held, and the report finalized.

Any Massachusetts students going into 9th grade in September can apply for a space in our first lottery. Applications are available on this site. Any application post-marked by March 12, 2012 will be entered into our first lottery and will have the first available spaces in our school. The cities and towns of Holyoke, Chicopee, West Springfield, Westfield, South Hadley and Northampton will have priority placement in the lottery.

Applications postmarked after March 12, 2012, will go into a second lottery waiting list.

Submitting an application does not obligate a student to attend; families can change their decision at any time and attend another school.
